The backbone of the sign program for the The Getty Center was a proprietary alphabet which was created to compliment Richard Meier’s brilliant architecture. Acting as design director for Saul Bass, Herb Yager & Associates who were the graphic design consultants to the J. Paul Getty Trust, John Guard worked closely with Saul Bass on developing the design of the sign program, its alphabet and the integration of the signs within their environment. The comprehensive sign project took John 5 years to design and complete.
